Group hug, everybody! A new poll has found that an overwhelming majority of parents and grandparents feel that casual games help them bond with their children and grandchildren. Of the 7,500 adults polled by PopCap (a - quelle surprise! - casual games developer), 92% reckoned that they’d become closer to the young’uns through the wonder of casual games.

That’s not all these bitesize games are ace at, though: 68% believed they improved hand-eye coordination, 60% thought they encouraged general learning (such as spelling), 48% said they helped strengthen the memory, and 66% said they would like to see casual games appear in their children or grandchildren's schools. Tsch, school nowadays. What a doddle.

"Casual games seem to promote more of a cooperative ‘let's work on this together’ type of atmosphere, as opposed to an aggressive, interpersonal competitive environment," said psychologist and author Dr. Carl Arinoldo. "Casual games span generations and genders in ways that traditional 'hardcore' video games never have. This universal appeal, and the ‘G-rated’ content of the games, makes them a great activity in which the whole family can participate."
